For some time now I have been busy working on a monster project. Monster project, because I think it might take quite some time to finish it.
The first concept for this project dates back to September 2005. Next, around April 2006 I started tatting it. More than a year later, one quarter of the work was finished. So then you can work out that it will take until approximately the midle of 2010 before I'll finish it.
It started with a couple of linen doilies that I bought in Horstmar, in 2005. It's the kind of linen doilies onto which you are supposed to add a lacy border yourself. It doesn't matter how; you can do it in crochet, bobbin lace, needle lace, or tatting. In my case, it is going to be a tatted border, of course. Below is the doily that I wanted to do first.
I didn't manage to design a small border that suited the shape of the linen doily. I did manage to come op with a wide border. Well, wide? You might say monsterly wide, because the border is broader than the doily itself!
For this project I am using DMC Special Cordonnet No. 100, white. The diameter of the doily itself is 17 cm on average (approximately 7 inches). The finished project will have a diameter of approximately 60 cm (24 inches).
Special techniques:
Well, now that I've aroused your interest, I think it's fun to gradually reveal the doily as it approaches completion. The first picture is the design that I made on the computer up front. Of course, a lot is left to imagination, but that's what makes it exciting! In any case you can see that the border is going to be very wide. Next time I'll show you some more details!
