This is a heart with zig-zag tatted chains. These chains are very small, and contain one picot each, which makes it look very much like pearl tatting. That's why I've called this particular way of doing zig-zag chains mock pearl tatting. For a description of mock pearl tatting, look here.
Materials | DMC Special Dentelles No. 80, two shuttles. |
Size | This heart measures 6 cm (2.5 inch) across. |
Description |
I've used two colours in the diagram: red for the odd rounds, blue for the even rounds. Round I (one shuttle): Ring 8x2 d.s. End with a mock picot and proceed to next round without cutting the thread. Round II (one shuttle): All rings 8-2-2-2-2-2-2-8. You can also work this round such that you can proceed to round III without cutting the thread. In this case, use two shuttles. The second shuttle comes into play when you make the last ring. This last ring becomes a split ring: 8-2-2-2/2-2-2-8. Round III (two shuttles): 1: 3 zig-zag chains 1-1; always start a series of zigzag chains with one that has the picot facing outward 2: Ring 8-8 3: 7 zig-zag chains 1-1 4: Ring 8-8 5: 5 zig-zag chains 1-1 6: 3 zig-zag chains 1-1 7: 3 zig-zag chains 1-1 8: Ring 8-8 9: 9 zig-zag chains 1-1 Now repeat from 8. to 1. in reverse order, making the opposite side of the heart. Cut threads, Round IV (shuttle and ball): 1: Ring 6x2 d.s. 2: Chain 4-4 3: Ring 6x2 d.s. 4: Chain 4-2 5: Ring 4-2-2-2-2-2-2-4 6: Chain 2-4 7: Ring 6x2 d.s. 8: Chain 4-2 Now repeat from 5 to 8 six times. The last chain of the last repeat is chain 32. 33: Ring 4-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-4 (this is the base of the heart) 34: Chain 2-4 35: Ring 6x2 d.s. 36: (Not shown in diagram) Chain 4-2 37: Ring 4-2-2-2-2-2-4 Repeat 34 to 37 another 6 times to complete this round. |
