(Previous Episode - The Monster Project - Part 3)
This time again a larger version of the Monster Project, which now has the name Sacré Coeur. The picture below still represents the original design. Since then I changed it a couple of times, but the outline is still the same. I added a few elements here and there that I needed for stability. Also, there were some empty spaces. You can guess where they were. Also there is less space surrounding the round motifs closest to the center. Actually, these were the result of a sloppy design drawing.
Below you can see a scan of the beginning. It doesn't have any of the later design changes yet. This was already connected to the fabric, but I erased it in a drawing program. That's because I wanted to know if it would fit around the fabric.
With the help of the drawing program that I use, that's easy to find out. I only needed to copy and rotate a couple of times. The result is below.
Well, based on this experiment I decided that the design and the number of double knots were OK.
Below you can see a screenshot of the design drawing for Sacré Coeur's three main motifs. I wrote a little program (my profession is in software engineering) that determines the length of the rings and chains from the drawing, and that pastes the numbers back into the drawing, using a certain factor. Next, I only need to adapt the numbers, rounding them, or changing them using some tatting judgement, to arrive at the correct number of knots.
Well! That's it for now. Next time I'll show you a picture of the current status of the works. Not a very large picture. That I'll save for the last episode!
